A small reddish-brown she-cat sat in the middle of the ThunderClan camp. Her emerald green optics scanned the clearing for any life...which there was none. The deputy looked up, her optics shining. Dawn was approaching fast, and before long it would be daytime.
Ashstar had left the camp to her, while he was gone. Not like there was much to look after. The leader and herself were the only two members at the time, and life was quiet...
RiverClan
The she-cat hissed as the name flashed into her mind. There had always been three Clans...until they came. They had no right invading. ShadowClan and WindClan had joined forces...but Foxleaf wouldnt agree to anything of the such, even with her last breath.

The powerful gray and white tom stopped in the distance. Coming back from the RiverClan boundary had been a challenge, but he had done it. Worn out from a long argument with Ireheart, he was eager to return home. His newly appointed deputy, Foxleaf, was only 5 fox lengths away. ThunderClan was quiet as they waited for the Clan to grow fully. Eaglepaw, the newest apprentice of the Clan and Vilepaw, another small apprentice were the only youngsters. Alas, the Clan was growing rapidly, and Ashstar was excited about the new arrivals.
Foxleaf.
His voice was soft, but dry and seemingly angry. She was hissing up a storm, and a look of pure hate reflected in her eyes. Shaking his head, Ashstar walked up to his beautiful partner. RiverClan is our friend. Remember that. Ashstar, of course, did not have mind reading powers, but always could sense what others were thinking. It was something that the Clan leaders were quite fearful about, and thus they never hid their oppositions of things, in fear that Ashstar would announce what they were thinking. They are our friends, and we want them to stay. Please believe in me.

Foxleaf jumped at the sound of her name. She slowely turned around facing whoever had called her. Her eyes met Ashstar's and she instantly calmed down. Feeling rather foolish, she sat down and licked her chest a few times. Her emerald colored optics flashed as she heard what her leader was saying.
RiverClan...our friend? They just came along...expecting to live in the territory that had always held three clans. Sometimes Foxleaf thought Ashstar was too soft, but he also had a point. RiverClan hadnt been agressive to them so far. No territory had been stolen, as well as prey. But could they still be trusted?
She returned her gaze to the tom and spoke. "Ashstar...you know I always believe in you" she paused then continued "But how can we trust them?" This was a question the young deputy wanted answered. Only then would she be at peace.

The soft gaze of Ashstar's turned to sudden cold. But for a milisecond. A gentle smile appeared on his maw as he looked at Foxleaf. Foxleaf, we have to be strong for them. They have nothing. Their camp is filth and trash. They have no leader ship and no sense of direction. We cannot join Autumstar and Claritystar. We have to be strong.
As Foxleaf told him of her worries, he lifted his head to the sky, as if trying to think of an explanation. As a cat of 70 moons, he normally lost his memory at times of great disputes like this. It was close for him to retire from Leadership, but he would not resign until RiverClan had joined their forces.
We are the only ones who do. His answer made his own bones rattle. He was a wise, old cat and had always respected everyone of shapes and sizes. He was the favored cat among the Clans, and everyone knew it. If there was a cat in trouble, he would gladly help them. And now RiverClan needed him, more than anything.

Ashstar's words hit Foxleaf like a fallen tree. Her eyes grew soft instantly and she looked into the distance. We are the only ones who do, she repeated Ashstar's words in her head. She had no idea how it felt to live under no leadership...or in a filthy camp. ThunderClan was all she had known since a kit. But somehow she understood.
A soft wind washed over the camp, Foxleaf's rust colored fur was pushed back against the wind. She silently looked into to the sky. Silverpelt was dissapearing along with the rest of night. It was almost dawn. What would the RiverClan cats be doing now? Trying to find food, or trying to build a decent camp. She had no idea...but she knew it must be rough.
After what seemed like ages she returned her gaze to her leader. "I...understand" were the only words to escape her maw.

Ashstar nodded. Try to put yourself in their paws, Foxleaf. As he said this, he looked down at his own snow white trackers. He let out a sad sigh. So much had gone on since last winter, and he feared the saftey of RiverClan. ShadowClan was getting far in their plan to take over RiverClan and push WindClan out, and he would not allow it. Maybe at the next gathering it would be better. And besides, he was tired.
Come, Foxleaf. Let us rest. He looked over his shoulder only once, and then bounded into the crystallized sunrise. So much, so much. If only Jade had been here to see it, he thought. If only she had been here...
